Tips and tricks
I would say generate 1-2 images to see if you like the settings. Than bigger batches to select the best. Also I would disable Hires.
π§ 1. Base Model Setup
- Checkpoint:
EpicRealism XL(SDXL-based) - Resolution (important):
- Portrait:
832x1216or1024x1536 - Full body:
1024x1792
- Portrait:
π Why: SDXL performs best at higher native resolutions β better facial structure and fewer artifacts.
ποΈ 2. Sampler Settings
β Recommended (most stable realism)
- Sampler:
DPM++ 2M Karras - Steps:
25β35(sweet spot ~30) - CFG Scale:
4.5 β 6
π Why:
- Lower CFG = more natural, less βAI crispy skinβ
- DPM++ Karras = smooth gradients, better skin tones
βοΈ Alternative samplers
| Sampler | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| DPM++ 2M Karras | Best overall realism | Slightly slower |
| DPM++ SDE Karras | More cinematic | Can over-soften |
| Euler a | Fast | More artifacts |
π§ 3. LoRA Usage (CRITICAL)
Typical config:
- LoRA weight:
0.6 β 0.9
π Rules:
0.6β0.7β subtle realism boost0.8β0.9β stronger style (risk of overfitting)>1.0β often breaks anatomy
π« 5. Negative Prompt (VERY IMPORTANT)
blurry, soft, low quality, bad anatomy, distorted face, extra fingers,
plastic skin, overexposed, oversaturated, CGI, render, 3d, cartoon
π Add:
smooth skin
β prevents βInstagram filter faceβ
π‘ 6. Hires Fix / Upscaling
β Use:
- Hires fix: ON
- Upscale:
1.5x β 2x - Denoising:
0.25 β 0.35 - Upscaler:
4x-UltraSharporR-ESRGAN 4x+
π Why:
- Adds micro-detail (pores, fabric)
- Keeps structure intact
π― 1. ADetailer β BEST BASE CONFIG (Face)
Use this as your default for EpicRealism XL + LoRA:
π§ Detection
- Model:
face_yolov8n.pt(or mediapipe_face_full if you prefer softer detection) - Confidence threshold:
0.3 β 0.4 - Mask min ratio:
0.01 - Mask max ratio:
1.0
ποΈ Inpaint Settings
- Denoising strength:
0.25 β 0.35β (very important) - Inpaint only masked: β ON
- Inpaint padding:
32 β 64
β ADetailer #2 β Hands (optional but powerful)
Settings:
- Model:
hand_yolov8n.pt - Denoise:
0.2 β 0.3 - Steps:
15β20
Prompt:
realistic hands, correct anatomy, five fingers, natural skin texture
π Fixes:
- extra fingers
- melted hands
π§ ADetailer #3 β Body (optional)
- Model:
person_yolov8n.pt - Denoise:
0.2 β 0.25
π Use ONLY if:
- body looks soft or distorted
β 1. Best ADetailer Settings (for THIS type of image)
π€ Face ADetailer
Detection model: face_yolov8n.pt
Confidence: 0.3Denoising strength: 0.22 β 0.28 β LOWER than usual
Steps: 18β22
CFG: 4 β 4.5Inpaint only masked: ON
Padding: 32
Optional Prompt: natural skin texture, visible pores, subtle imperfections,
soft skin transitions, realistic eyes, natural lips
π§ 2. Why LOWER denoise here?
This image has:
- flash lighting
- already sharp face
- strong highlights
π If you use:
Denoise 0.35+
Youβll get:
- β plastic skin
- β face reshaped
- β over-smoothing
If eyes look crossed
π§ 1. FIRST: fix your core settings
Most common cause:
CFG too high OR LoRA too strong
β Try this baseline:
LoRA: 0.6 β 0.7
CFG: 4.5 β 5
Steps: 28β32
π If eyes are crossed:
LOWER CFG first (e.g. 5 β 4.5)
π§ 2. Add eye-specific guidance (this is HUGE)
Add this to your prompt:
symmetrical eyes, aligned pupils, looking in the same direction, natural gaze, focused eyes
π« Optional (if still happening)
You can reinforce with negative prompt:
cross-eyed, misaligned pupils
π₯ 3. Use ADetailer (best fix)
If youβre already using it:
β Recommended ADetailer settings:
Model: face_yolov8n.pt
Denoise: 0.25 β 0.35
CFG: 4 β 4.5
Steps: 15β20
π Why:
- low denoise = fixes eyes without changing face
- lower CFG = avoids over-sharpening
β οΈ 4. Watch your angle
Crossed eyes happen more when:
model tries to βguessβ eye direction
face is slightly turned
